Description:
These are pond/bladder/tadpole snails (Physa sp.) as shown in the item description.
Besides providing another interesting dimension to your tank, snails (together with shrimp) have an invaluable role in your tank's ecosystem by breaking down waste that can't be processed by beneficial bacteria. These snails will also help get rid of types of unsightly algae on the aquarium glass. Unlike ramshorn snails these snails will not eat healthy live plants.
Note that these snails can survive outdoors in ponds. To make sure they don't get shocked by a sudden change in temperature you should gradually aclimatise the snails to the pond. Place the snails in about 2-3 litres of declorinated water at indoor room temperature (about 15C) and place in the pond. You can also gradually introduce pond water into the snail's container over an hour so they also get used to the new chemical composition of the pond water. After about an hour release the snails.
Physa sp. snails are also used as food for puffers, bettas and assasin snails. Snails are an essential part of many puffer fish's diet as their teeth need to be continually worn down or they won't be able to open their beak.
You will receive at least 12 snails. We shall try to include a mixture of the two types of Physa sp. as shown, most will probably be the snail on the right as these are slightly larger. The provided snails are large adult snails, approximately 0.75cm to 1.5cm. The snails have been bred in indoor heated tanks - and have a far reduced risk of transmitting diseases compared to outdoor grown snails.
The snails will be posted safely within a custom made cardboard box in an A4 mailing bag by Royal Mail First Class post. Email to arrange paypal payment and delivery.
