Description:
I have a number of these wonderful cichlids available for £0 each (yes for free) although a donation of fish food would be warmly welcomed.
They are currenlty 1/2 - 1 inch in length and are growing quickly on ZM200 fry food. The water needs to be hard (it can be brackish) with a ph of neutral or slightly above and 82of. They can cohabit with peaceful centrals, south americans, malawi haps, peaceful tanganyikans and west africans with no problems though they will lose out to the more aggressive species.
The adult colour is steel blue with black markings and wonderful wonderful red highlights in adult males. They are fairly hardy and reach a majestic 10" in length after a very long time. They are very peaceful but can hold their own in a fight and males can be intolerant of one another in smaller tanks.
They will eat just about anything but appreciate frozen food. Breeding can be tricky but a good trigger is to raise the temperature and make the water slightly brackish.
