Live Nannochlorpois oculata is the first link in the food chain.

Nutritionally, phytoplankton is a source of micronutrients, vitamins, oils and trace elements needed for aquatic communities. It is a rich source of macronutrients, protein, carbohydrates and especially essential fatty acids. Microalgae (phytoplankton) provide essential pigments which enhance coloration and health in fish and invertebrates.

Its fantastic for reef and sand dwelling invertebrates , aquarium inhabitants including: clams, scallops, many corals, gorgonians, fan worms, tunicates, sea apples and other cucumbers, and some sponges will all benefit from feeding with live phyto.

Microalgae has also been shown to have a therapeutic, antibiotic-like effect on fish and other animals.
